Exponential technologies and massive economic and political shifts are disrupting the way companies operate. The third annual NBF Knowledge Series brought together business leaders and analysts to share insights on how to future-proof business for new challenges and find opportunity in the turmoil.

Themed “Redrawing the Lines”, the NBF Knowledge Series 2018 attracted over 700 UAE business leaders at a series of one-day networking sessions across Fujairah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Experts speaking at the NBF Knowledge Series included senior analysts from Thomson Reuters, Encore & Partners - Derby Group, Gartner and KPMG Lower Gulf.

Topics discussed at the event included:

  • The regional and global economic outlook – Against the backdrop of synchronised global economic growth, experts predicted a rise in the cost of funding due to monetary changes, and urged businesses to hedge their risks accordingly. Regionally, they said that fiscal reforms and stimulus programmes are expected to create pockets of growth across the Middle East.

  • Changing environment of trade finance - NBF’s Trade Finance team shed light on how digitisation, e-commerce and evolving compliance requirements are disrupting trade patterns and discussed how business should respond.

  • Digital business transformation – Speakers highlighted how emerging technologies like Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence cannot drive growth alone, but should be integrated into your overall strategy as tools to support your business goals.

  • Updates on regional developments - Experts mentioned how the plethora of government-led mega projects across the region, such as Expo 2020 in the UAE and Neom City in KSA, are set to fuel growth.
